Summer Sounds, Festive Flavors, & Cultural Celebrations: Your Guide to Events in West Point & King William

Summer is just around the corner, and that means event season is in full swing here in WPKW (that's West Point + King William for our new friends)! Whether you’re a local looking for some weekend fun or a traveler seeking authentic experiences, there’s something for everyone in our picturesque communities nestled between the Pamunkey, Mattaponi, and York Rivers.

Food Trucks by the River

First up on the summer agenda is West Point’s beloved Food Trucks by the River, where locals and visitors can indulge in a delectable array of cuisines while enjoying live music and the tranquil settings of West Point Creek and the Mattaponi River. Welcoming popular food trucks from Hampton Roads to Richmond, West Point’s Food Trucks by the River brings unique fare from around the state to the Middle Peninsula’s doorstep. Grab your friends and family and head to The Pavilion at Riverwalk Park on the following Fridays from 5pm to 8pm: May 17th, June 21st, July 19th, August 16th, September 20th, and October 18th. For a lively good time at nearby West Point Town Park, don’t miss the West Point Chamber of Commerce’s Jammin’ On the Point summer concert series, which showcases talented artists and bands from around Virginia. Enjoy food, wine, beer, and a fun time on the following Fridays: June 14th, July 12th, August 23rd, and September 6th.

Upper Mattaponi Indian Tribe Pow Wow

For those eager to immerse themselves in the amazing Native American culture King William County has to offer, don’t miss the vibrant Pow Wows that celebrate tradition, dance, and community spirit. The 35th Annual Upper Mattaponi Tribe Pow Wow will be held on Saturday, May 25th and Sunday, May 26th, and the 26th Annual Mattaponi Indian Tribe Pow Wow is Saturday, June 15th.

 

In June, join in the commemoration of Juneteenth: Celebrating Freedom, marking the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 15th at the historic King William County Courthouse, and will feature food, music, dancing, music, and more. It will be a time of reflection, education, and unity as the community comes together to honor this significant milestone in American history. Fitness enthusiasts can lace up their running shoes for West Point’s annual Chesty Puller 10K, a challenging yet rewarding race that winds through the scenic streets of downtown West Point and crosses the town’s twin bridges. Honor the legend himself while conquering your goals! With sixteen years of history, the Chesty Puller 10K is viewed as one of the most patriotic events in Virginia.

King William Farmers Market

From May through September, be sure to visit the bustling West Point and King William Farmers Markets, where you can browse fresh, locally sourced produce, meat, and dairy products, along with baked goods, handmade crafts, artisanal products, and much more. West Point’s Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 8am to Noon at The Pavilion at Riverwalk Park. Be sure to follow the King William market on Facebook for its schedule.
